Smart Dual Light

The Dahua Smart Dual Light technology presents three main operation modes: IR, Warm Light and Smart Illumination which is a key AI component of the set. Smart Illumination is the camera’s intelligent lighting control mechanism that ensures clear monitoring while dynamically adjusting illumination according to the contextual requirements of the scene and using resources efficiently. In its standard configuration, the system relies on infrared illumination for continuous black-and-white surveillance. When the integrated deep learning algorithm identifies a valid target, the warm LED is automatically activated to record full-color video with richer detail. Once the target leaves the field of view, the camera switches back to infrared. In addition, the deep learning component is optimized to handle both indoor and outdoor conditions, maintaining reliable performance across a wide range of deployment scenarios. This Dahua mechanism makes it possible to capture key events in color without keeping the LED permanently on, which reduces light pollution, lowers power consumption, and improves overall system efficiency.

The system provides two dedicated illumination formats, each designed for different purpose:

  • IR Mode: In this configuration, only the infrared illuminator is active. This option is well suited to environments where visible light is unnecessary, with consistent black-and-white video while keeping the scene unobtrusive and minimizing excess light.
  • Warm Light (LED) Mode: Alternatively, the camera can operate with the warm LED continuously on. This mode is designed for situations that require uninterrupted color recording, such as entrances, checkpoints, or other locations where accurate identification of people and objects is essential.

Camera illumination can be scheduled across different time periods, allowing IR Mode, Warm Light Mode, or the default Smart Illumination mode to be assigned according to operational needs. This makes configuration more efficient and ensures that the camera adapts automatically to changing conditions without manual adjustment. A practical example can be seen in retail: from 18:00 to 21:00, while the store is still open, the camera operates in IR Mode, providing reliable monitoring without visible light and avoiding any disturbance to customers. From 21:00 to 06:00, after closing, Smart Illumination is enabled, keeping infrared as the baseline and activating the warm LED only when a target is detected. This setup records critical events in full color, avoids unnecessary light emission, and keeps resource consumption low throughout the night.

SMD & Perimeter Protection

The new Dahua WizSense 3 Smart Dual Light series is equipped with Smart Motion Detection (and its most advanced SMD 4.0 version), an AI based technology that improves the accuracy of event alarms. SMD works by analyzing moving shapes and distinguishing between human and vehicle forms, so alerts are only triggered when relevant activity is detected. In the latest generation, SMD 4.0 further enhances filtering by recognizing animal movements and preventing them from causing false alarms. This ensures that security staff receive precise notifications and can focus their attention on real threats rather than irrelevant motion. In practice, the technology achieves a detection accuracy rate of 99 percent, reliably distinguishing between humans, vehicles, and other types of targets, while the false alarm rate remains below 0.5 percent for small animals and under 2 percent for large animals, delivering both precision and reliability in everyday operation.

The WizSense 3 Smart Dual Light series also integrates Perimeter Protection, a function that relies on deep learning to apply virtual tripwire and intrusion rules with high precision. The system analyzes movements within the defined zone and raises an alarm only when a human or vehicle crosses the boundary, effectively filtering out irrelevant motion such as swaying vegetation, shadows, or other background activity. This allows security teams to be notified only of events that truly matter, rather than being distracted by irrelevant motion. In practice, Perimeter Protection maintains a false alarm rate below one percent, which translates into reliable and stable performance in day-to-day operation. When paired with Smart Dual Light, the feature can also trigger adaptive illumination, capturing intrusions in full color exactly at the moment they occur while keeping unnecessary light emission to a minimum.

AcuPick

Among the advanced capabilities of the Dahua WizSense 3, AcuPick feature stands out for its ability to streamline post-event investigation. By applying intelligent feature extraction, the system can pinpoint relevant clips containing a specific person or vehicle and automatically exclude unrelated footage. Such a targeted approach eliminates the need to manually review extended video timelines and delivers evidence location with speed and precision. It is particularly valuable in use cases like tracking a vehicle across a parking facility, verifying movements within a store, or documenting incidents that require clear and actionable records.

Dahua AcuPick Technologie

The mechanism relies on close integration between the camera and supported Dahua netword recorders. The camera performs high-accuracy analysis of objects in the field of view which are then transferred to the recorder. The Dahua NVR uses the image and information to match and retrieve the exact video segments associated with the target. This division of tasks between edge analysis and recorder-based indexing results in fast searches, accurate filtering, and a consistent reduction in operator workload. For security teams, Dahua AcuPick delivers not only efficiency but also a higher level of performance that no critical detail is overlooked.

AI SSA

To further strengthen image reliability, the series incorporates Dahua AI SSA (Scene Self-Adaption). This deep learning engine automatically recognizes environmental conditions such as rain, snow, fog, strong backlight, or flicker and adapts camera settings in real time for optimal image output. The technology fine-tunes parameters like exposure, contrast, and defog modes according to the detected scenario, ensuring consistently sharp and clear footage without manual intervention. AI ABR

Managing video bitrate is a critical part of video surveillance, since bandwidth limitations and long-term storage requirements can create bottlenecks if data is not optimized. Over the years Dahua has used different strategies, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. The evolution of these methods highlights why AI Coding ABR is now considered the most efficient solution.

  • H.265 (VBR): Early variable bitrate encoding provided compression benefits but struggled when network performance is unstable or bandwidth was limited. It also created challenges for long-term storage because of its fluctuating data rates.
  • Smart Codec (VBR): Improved efficiency through smarter calculations, yet it remained complex to predict bandwidth needs in high-activity environments and still produced variability that could strain resources.
  • AI Coding (CBR): Introduced constant bitrate with AI optimization, which made deployment simpler and improved system stability. However, it required fixed bandwidth allocation, limiting flexibility in dynamic conditions.
  • AI Coding ABR: Combines the advantages of both approaches by supporting adaptive, constant, and variable bitrate strategies. It balances image quality with bandwidth savings, ensuring that surveillance systems maintain clarity while efficiently meeting the demands of different scenarios.

AI Coding ABR of Dahua works by dynamically adjusting the bitrate according to the complexity of the scene. When little or no motion is detected, the system reduces the bitrate to conserve resources. As soon as multiple objects appear or the scene becomes more complex, the saved capacity is redirected to raise the bitrate above the average level, thus providing high quality and detailed images. This adaptive balance makes ABR especially effective in environments where conditions vary throughout the day, for example when quiet hours alternate with busy periods of activity. Even in challenging situations with many moving targets, the system maintains a stable average bitrate over time without exceeding preset limits. A key advantage is that ABR minimizes image blurring and preserves fine details of moving subjects, which significantly improves the reliability of recorded video.

Dahua AI Coding ABR

Face Detection (Full Image)

Among the intelligent features built into Dahua WizSense 3 cameras is IVS Face Detection (Full Image). This function constantly scans the video feed for human faces, captures the full image, and triggers actions such as snapshot, recording, or alarm when a face is detected, while filtering the material by minimum face size to maintain clarity (ideally faces larger than 150×150 pixels in Full HD, depending on mounting height and distance). This guarantees that even at boundaries or distances, faces remain visually usable. Dahua Face Detection supports both regular monitoring and event-triggered snapshots without needing face recognition databases, making it less invasive yet highly effective. It works well in mixed scenes where you want to monitor intrusion or perimeter breaches but also wish to capture facial detail when people enter key zones, improving situational awareness without overwhelming storage or bandwidth.

Xinghan Large-Scale AI Models

The latest generation of Dahua’s Xinghan large-scale AI models marks a major step forward in intelligent video analytics. Released in 2025 for Vision IPC devices, these models significantly enhance detection capabilities by leveraging extensive pre-training across a wide range of scenarios. Detection rates have improved by up to 80 percent, particularly for small targets and complex environments, while false alarm rates have been reduced by as much as 92 percent. Target classification has also become far more accurate, enabling the system to distinguish objects with higher confidence. In perimeter protection deployments, the models extend detection distance by up to 50 percent compared to conventional CNN AI, while still maintaining 98 percent accuracy. Beyond pure detection, Dahua Xinghan models introduce scene type recognition that allows cameras to adjust settings automatically, such as enabling or disabling WDR. This ensures that facial details remain clear and bright areas are not overexposed, resulting in more reliable and usable images across challenging lighting conditions.

During business hours, Illumination by Schedule ensures discreet monitoring with IR Mode so customers are not disturbed.
