Dahua NVR EI2 Series: Expanded AI Capabilities at Recorder Level

With the EI2 series, Dahua further expands its WizSense NVR lineup with sophisticated AI functionality built on robust hardware and powerful deep learning algorithms. The series is purpose-designed for demanding video surveillance scenarios where accuracy, efficiency, and scalability are critical. It is the first recorder product line from Dahua to support AI features such as AcuPick and video metadata analysis directly within the NVR, in addition to established functions like face recognition, perimeter protection, and SMD Plus. For real-world deployments, this translates into significantly higher analytics performance at recorder level, greater flexibility in system design, fewer false alarms, and much faster forensic review in professional video surveillance. In this article, we outline the key functions and advantages of the new series and present you the Dahua NVR EI2 products available in our shop.

New Features of the Dahua NVR EI2 Series

The feature set of the Dahua NVR EI2 line varies depending on the specific model and its technical specifications. Our shop offers multiple EI2 NVRs from Dahua with different performance profiles, making them suitable for a wide range of requirements. While individual models differ, the technological direction of the EI2 line remains consistent. The following section highlights the key capabilities and advantages that define the Dahua NVR EI2 generation for professional surveillance applications.

AcuPick Available Directly on the Recorder

AcuPick is an AI-powered automated search function from Dahua designed for object-based analysis of recorded video footage. With AcuPick 2.0, relevant objects such as persons or vehicles can be selected directly within recorded video material using a single click. The system then identifies and retrieves the selected target across the entire video archive. This automated search is based on deep learning algorithms for object classification and feature recognition. It enables significantly faster identification of relevant sequences without the need for manual filtering or complex search parameters.

In earlier Dahua NVR EI generations, AcuPick was available exclusively on the camera side and required the use of appropriately equipped AI cameras. With the Dahua NVR EI2 series, AcuPick is supported directly on the recorder for the first time. Metadata generation and object recognition are performed on the NVR, allowing AcuPick to be used even with cameras that do not include native AcuPick functionality. Within the EI2 series, AcuPick is supported on up to four recorder channels simultaneously, depending on the model. This provides significantly greater flexibility in camera selection and simplifies project planning over the long term. At the same time, the recorder-based AcuPick function of the Dahua EI2 series makes the identification of relevant people or vehicles more efficient and more targeted, particularly in security-critical scenarios.

Video Metadata Generation at NVR Level

Also new to the Dahua NVR EI2 series is the ability to generate video metadata directly on the NVR using deep learning algorithms. Object information related to persons, vehicles, and non-motor vehicles is extracted from recorded video data and stored in a structured, text based format. These metadata sets describe key attributes of the detected objects and enable targeted filtering, search, and analysis within professional video surveillance systems.

The generated metadata forms the foundation for object based search, more precise event analysis, and features such as AcuPick or Target Video within the NVR Next interface. In contrast to earlier Dahua EI models, where metadata generation had to be performed exclusively on the camera side, the EI2 line enables metadata creation directly on the recorder. This makes metadata based search and analysis available even in systems where the connected cameras do not provide video metadata themselves, enabling greater flexibility in system design and project planning for professional video surveillance solutions.

Optimized Deep Learning Analytics

The NVR EI2 series leverages enhanced deep learning algorithms specifically designed to deliver more accurate classification of persons and vehicles. Compared to the previous EI generation, analysis quality has been improved, particularly in complex scenes, changing lighting conditions, and environments with high levels of movement. These changes have a direct impact on the accuracy of AI functions such as perimeter protection, SMD, AcuPick, and video metadata analysis, while reducing misclassifications and irrelevant events. As a result, the optimized algorithms form a core foundation for reliable video analytics and consistent evaluation within modern surveillance systems based on the Dahua EI2 series.

Expanded Use of Camera-Based AI with Higher Channel Capacity

The Dahua NVR EI2 series offers significantly increased processing capacity for camera-based AI analytics. Depending on the model, deep learning driven features such as perimeter protection, SMD, and other AI functions can be integrated across a substantially higher number of camera channels and processed centrally by the recorder. While previous EI generations were more limited in this regard, the Dahua NVR EI2 series enables the parallel operation of a considerably larger number of AI cameras within a single system. Selected models support the connection and use of AI cameras, including their respective AI features, across all available channels. As a result, complex analytics workflows can be deployed efficiently without increasing the load on the underlying system architecture.

Increased System Bandwidth

Another key performance characteristic of the Dahua NVR EI2 series is the increased system bandwidth. Depending on the model, the series supports a maximum incoming network bandwidth of up to 448 Mbit/s, compared to the previous EI generation, which was typically limited to 384 Mbit/s. This improvement allows a larger number of high resolution video streams to be processed and recorded simultaneously, even at higher bitrates and with AI functions enabled. In systems with high camera density and data intensive video analytics, the increased bandwidth ensures smooth and reliable system performance.

Higher Decoding Performance

The Dahua NVR EI2 series also offers enhanced decoding capacity for the simultaneous display and playback of multiple high resolution video streams. This allows video content to be processed smoothly even at higher resolutions and bitrates, without compromising image quality. Compared to the previous NVR EI generation, internal video decoding has been further optimized to meet the growing performance demands of modern camera systems. In practical operation, this means that more streams can be decoded in parallel, live view remains stable even at high resolutions, and overall system performance is significantly improved, particularly in environments with high camera density and concurrent video playback.

Proven System Functions of the Dahua NVR EI Series

In addition to the extended AI capabilities, the Dahua NVR EI2 series retains some key features from the previous EI generation that became well established in professional installations.

Camera-Based AI Functions

Camera-side AI processing remains a fundamental element of the EI2 series. When used with compatible AI cameras from Dahua, a broad set of intelligent functions is supported. These include Face detection/face comparison, video metadata (people, vehicles, non-vehicles), perimeter protection, SMD, stereo analysis, crowd detection, people counting, ANPR, vehicle density, heat map, PSA, object detection, noise detection and AcuPick. These features support precise identification of relevant events, help minimize false alarms, and enable accurate camera-level analysis of critical security scenarios.

Reliable System and Power Supply

The recorders of the EI2 series are designed for continuous operation and are equipped with an integrated, stable power supply with an input voltage range of 100 to 240 V AC at 50/60 Hz. This design ensures consistent 24/7 operation in professional security installations and allows deployment across different power infrastructures without the need for additional adjustments.

Efficient video compression

Smart H.265 Plus and Smart H.264 Plus remain part of the series’ feature set, enabling more efficient use of storage and network resources. This significantly lowers bandwidth and storage requirements without degrading image quality in security-critical scenarios.

Storage Flexibility

The NVR EI2 series adopts the proven storage architecture of the previous EI generation and is designed for the use of internal SATA hard drives. Depending on the NVR configuration, multiple SATA HDDs are supported, typically with capacities of up to 20 TB per drive. In addition, selected models also allow the connection of external storage via iSCSI, enabling the total available storage capacity to be expanded flexibly to support longer recording periods.

High Resolution Video Output via HDMI

A high resolution HDMI output for live view and playback remains part of the Dahua EI2 recorder series and is intended for use with professional monitors, provided they support the corresponding resolution. This allows multiple camera channels and video streams to be displayed simultaneously in a clear and structured manner.
